Our privileged location and hotel infrastructure guarantee a full connection with nature.

The hotel and cabins are ideally located to fully enjoy a panoramic view of the lake and volcanoes. This beautiful, natural setting is perfect for rest and relaxation as well as a starting point for a wide variety of activities available in the gateway to Patagonia.

Puerto Octay

Time stopped in Puerto Octay. Located on the shores of Lake Llanquihue and characterized by houses and buildings from the mid-19th century, it's a true jewel of colonial architecture. The outstanding beauty of its surroundings transforms the view of this small town into a pleasant surprise.

El Colono Museum, founded in 1984 by the Puerto Octay Corporation of Touristic Development, is a must see. A diverse collection of artifacts, photographs and machinery are displayed here, recreating the lives of the colonists and the development of the community.

Osorno Volcano

An emblem of the Lakes District, the Osorno Volcano is one of the most impressive in Chile. Its conic form and great height—over 2,500 meters (8,000 feet)—makes it visible throughout the entire Province of Osorno.

The Osorno Volcano is located in Vicente Pérez Rosales Park, on the shores of Lake Llanquihue. There are countless activities to enjoy throughout the whole year.

During the winter every type of mountain activity is available, including skiing and snowboarding. You can also visit the lake and the park. In the summer you can go hiking, go for a ride on the chair lift to enjoy panoramic views, or have a guided tour.

Lake Crossing

The route that connects Puerto Varas in Chile with San Carlos de Bariloche in Argentina, via the Puella mountain pass, is known internationally as 'Cruce de Lagos' or 'Lake Crossing'.

The journey starts from Hotel Cabañas del Lago and follows the southern shore of Lake Llanquihue before entering the breathtaking vegetation of the Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park.

The adventure continues by sailing across Lakes Todos los Santos, Frías and Nahuel Huapi, providing the passengers with unbeatable beauty and an unforgettable experience.

Puerto Montt

Puerto Montt is the capital of the Lake District and the largest city in the region. It is also a valuable port for both the continent and the Island of Chiloe. The city was one of the first places to which the German settlers arrived and to this day retains its traditional architecture, combining European styles with the art and trade of its first inhabitants..

There are a number of tourist attractions in Puerto Montt, one of the most enjoyable being the Angelmó Cove and its fishing village style restaurants, serving food typical of the area. The city is also the gateway to the natural wonders and adventures of the Austral Highway that leads to Patagonia.

Chiloé

The main island of Chiloe is a place where mythology and tradition merge with nature and the sea. Amongst its characteristic architecture, largely based on larch and cypress wood, you can find numerous eighteenth and nineteenth century churches, sixteen of which have been designated UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Chiloe is also well known for its sea based legends as well as its often photographed 'palafitos' – colorful, shingled houses on stilts. The Chilote cuisine is key to its culture, including 'cazuela chilota', a lamb meat stew; traditional spit roasted lamb; and the famous 'curanto en hoyo', a meat and seafood feast cooked in the ground.

The island is reached by a 25 minute ferry ride across the Chacao Canal.

Alerce Andino National Park

  • 4.1.1

At the gateway to Chile's Austral Highway is Alerce Andino National Park, a magical place where vegetation grows in infinite shades of green from every corner.

At only … from Hotel Cabañas del Lago in Puerto Varas, the park is situated in the mountainous area of Lake Chapo. It boasts more than 20,000 hectares (50,000 acres) of indigenous plants and trees such as alerce (Patagonian Cypress tree), Coihue from Chiloe, Podocarpus, as well as abundant vines and ferns.

The geography of the Andean land was created by tectonic and glacial activity, creating deep valleys and more than fifty small and medium sized lagoons. The park hosts a variety of creatures, including the pudú, the smallest deer in the world and the majestic condor, the national symbol of Chile. Its rivers are home to local fish such as peladilla, also known as farionela, and percatrucha, as well as introduced species like the brown and rainbow trout.

Puerto Varas

Puerto Varas is characterized by being just a step away from everything there is to do in the south of Chile. There is a wide range of activities to do all year, including: ecotourism, adventure tourism, sport fishing, mountain sports, theater festivals, concerts, casino gaming etc. This gives it a unique and privileged place in the south of Chile.

Its cuisine is renowned for traditional German baking, in particular 'kuchen' (pie), cookies, cakes, homemade jams and chocolates and authentic German meals, which can be found in many local restaurants and cafes. Puerto Varas is also known as The City of Roses, due to the abundance of rose bushes planted along its streets.

Frutillar

Frutillar is located twenty five minutes to the north of Puerto Varas, on the shores of Lake Llanquihue. It is both the musical heart of the Lake District and also the perfect place to relax and enjoy a traditional German tea time.

The cultural center of the town is the popular 'Teatro del Lago'. As well as putting on concerts and various performances, the theater organizes 'The Musical Week of Frutillar' where you can hear superb orchestras led by famous conductors. Sailing is one of many available water sports, which are led by the Nautical Association of Frutillar.

Surrounded by an environment that inspires photography, painting, music, craftwork and hiking, in Frutillar you will experience an air of tranquility in a place where time stands still.

Lake Llanquihue

This area is characterized by the German colonists whose impact is still present in the architecture and traditions of the region. In addition to the Lakes Puyehue, Rupanco and Llanquihue, there are a number of cities (the most important of which are in the center) such as Osorno, Frutillar, Puerto Varas and Puerto Montt. The climate is temperate, with light rains throughout the year..

The journey starts from Hotel Cabañas del Lago and follows the southern shore of Lake Llanquihue before entering the breathtaking vegetation of Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park.

Lake Llanquihue has a surface area of 877 km2 (339 sq mi), which reflects the imposing Osorno and Calbuco volcanoes. Its shores are dotted with numerous beaches which are safe for water sports; some are fitted with picnic and camping facilities while others are equipped with complete tourist services. Surrounding the beaches are agricultural fields that reach down to the lake in smooth plateaus, forming small inlets alongside extensive beaches. Adding to an already diverse environment are the steep slopes of the Osorno Volcano, where native vegetation grows down to the coast of the lake.

Ensenada - Petrohué

This area is situated at the entrance of Chile's first and oldest national park, Vicente Pérez Rosales. Petrohué, meaning 'land of mist', is bordered by native forests that offer the first glimpse of Chilean Patagonia.

Here, you can follow one of the classic routes of the region, composed of the famous Petrohué River waterfalls. A peculiar geological formation, undoubtedly of volcanic origin, has shaped a cascading riverbed that provides a breathtaking succession of waterfalls.
